White Wedding Cake

For the final cake in the Wilton Course 3 class you have to make a big cake. A big two-tiered fondant covered creation adorned with one million roses made out of fondant. Ok... so not a million, just forty something, but it felt like a million - my fingers were killing me after knocking out those babies. Most people made their cakes with pink or orange or lavender roses, but I opted to make mine white for two reasons: there was a small picture in the back of the textbook that showed the cake with white roses that I loved and two I was lazy and didn't feel like coloring a bunch of fondant. My laziness paid off - everyone in class was envious of my white roses!

Havasu

This weekend we went to Lake Havasu to celebrate my cousin, Wesley, graduating high school. I clearly remember the day he was born and holding him a few days later. I can't believe that he has graduated! He joined the Air Force and leaves in September to go to basic training. It was great to be able to spend some time with him before he leaves.

We had such a fun, relaxing weekend. We went out on the lake two of the days. It was Dillon's first time on the boat and he loved it! He keeps talking about how the boat goes "really, really fast." It was also fun for him because two of my other cousins have kids around his age and they play so good together.

I think that my absolute favorite part of the weekend was watching Dillon. Seeing him interact and have real conversations with his little cousins was cool - He's never really had the opportunity to do it before. He was a real little person instead of just a baby. Amazing. How did that happen? And I loved getting to snuggle with him on the boat. Of all our trips to the lake and/or river, this one was definitely my favorite!

Ka-Ching

All of my cake classes have paid off... A friend asked me to make a graduation cake for her daughter's college graduation. It was fun dreaming up the cake, but it was a little stressful actually making and decorating the cake because I wanted it to be perfect. It was a "real" cake, as opposed to a "practice" cake. I didn't charge much and I could have easily charged twice what I did charge, but I didn't feel comfortable giving a price... I really need to work on that.

Another Cake

Right now I'm in the middle of Wilton Course Three. I'm loving making all the cakes and decorating them but I am getting a little tired of eating them.

Prom

Tonight was my niece Tiffany's prom. She looked absolutely beautiful and I just had to share. Tiffany and her best friend, Alyssa, came over to my house and Kara did both of the girls' hair and makeup. She did a great job with them.

Locks Of Love

My brother, David, has been growing out his hair for quite a while (I think somewhere around two years) with the sole purpose of donating it to Locks of Love. He was able to donate over fourteen inches of beautiful hair to help make a prosthesis hair piece for a disadvantaged child. I am so, so proud of him for doing such a noble thing.
