Fall Fun

I can't believe that it is already the end of November and I have yet to even post Halloween pictures. I've been so busy lately that I've been going to bed by nine! What an old lady! So, since I have once again gone forever without a post, here are some of the highlights...

At the beginning of October, Dillon and I went to the pumpkin patch with my mom's group from Church. Dillon had a blast jumping in all the different bounce houses and riding on the "ATV" train. He did not like the petting zoo at all. He went in and then wanted right back out.

Next up was a dinner to celebrate my brother's engagement! I am so excited that he is getting married - I love my future sister-in-law and am so lucky that she is going to officially going to be a part of our family!

And finally, it was Halloween and Dillon got his first experience with Trick-or-treating. He told us that he wanted to be a skeleton for Halloween, so that's what we got him. I found a pair of skeleton jammies at Gymboree for ten bucks! How perfect - he can wear his costume over and over. He was such a cute little skeleton. When we started out trick-or-treating we didn't think to bring the stroller and by the time we got to the end of our street Dillon said that he was done. We went home and got the stroller and he was ready to go again... but after ten minutes he was finished. He said that he just wanted to go home. I'm sure next year it will be a totally different story.

Falling

I can hardly wait for fall... the colors, the smells, the weather. I am longing for the cooler weather, the crispness in the air and fires crackling in the fireplace. My nostrils are craving the smells of apples, pumpkins and cinnamon. My taste buds are anticipating the first taste of a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. I am excited to see the wind swirling the leaves on the ground. I love the shorter days and the longer nights. I love the clothes - cozy sweaters and jeans and boots. I've already started bringing out the fall decorations - I can't wait the extra three weeks until the Autumn equinox. There is a street a few blocks away and the leaves on every tree change color. The leaves on the tree in my front yard change to brown, but on this street they change to the fall colors of orange, yellow, and crimson. It's a street I find myself driving down over and over again in the fall and as it nears winter I almost expect for it to start snowing. To me there is something so magical about fall. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is but it is stirring inside me.

Autumn Afternoon

This afternoon is such a perfect Autumn day - there is a slight breeze and the leaves are swirling about, the air is crisp and cool, but not too cold, the sun is shining brightly and there are stray wispy clouds in the sky. Tired of being stuck in the house on this wonderful day, I loaded Dillon up in the umbrella stroller and we went for a walk. It was so quiet out, except for the occasional crow cawing, that I felt as if I were walking through the country. I loved watching the wind blowing through Dillon's hair, but didn't really feel the same about it blowing mine every which way. Along the way, Dillon pointed to several "treasures" that he had to have and ended up with a collection of leaves, flowers and sticks. He is so cute, he holds them so gently in his little hands and doesn't want to get rid of them to gather the next prize, so he hands them to mommy and I store them safely in my sweatshirt pocket for him. I hope that the weather stays nice for a while so that we can continue taking our walks together.
