La Habra Children's Museum

Our city has a children's museum that I have been wanting to take Dillon to. It is small and totally quaint. It has been around for over thirty years and I remember going there when I was a kid. I took Dillon and Jordan there today, even though I thought that she might be a bit too old and that he might be a tad too young. But I was wrong and they both had a good time. Like I said, it's small, so I thought that it would only take us an hour or less at the museum - I was wrong - we were there for close to two hours.

They had a play area, a dress up area complete with a stage, a "dinosaur" excavation area, a carousel and many more things. Since today is also Earth day the had a craft area where the kids were able to paint flower pots and plant a flower in it. Dillon loved painting his and Jordan's turned out great.

We had a fun day and I will definitely take Dillon back.

Buffalo Bill

Today we visited the Buffalo Bill Cody museum and grave site. It was another thing that didn't really float my boat before we went, but I am glad that we did go. It is located up on a mountain called lookout mountain and you can see for forever from up there.

Inside the museum there is a short movie that you watch about the life of Buffalo Bill and I found it pretty interesting. But the scene stealer of the movie was none other than Dillon. At one point in the movie they showed a picture of Buffalo Bill and Dillon says really loud "that's a funny man." Everyone in the theater had a good laugh. There was also an Indian in the picture, so we were not one-hundred percent sure who he was talking about, but then they flashed a picture of Buffalo Bill, alone, and what does my little guy say? "There's the funny man again" Thankfully everyone laughed again and thankfully Ryan took Dillon out of the theater.

A few interesting facts that I learned: *After Bill's wife, Louisa, died in 1921, several tons of concrete were poured over the grave so that no one could try to steal Bill's body. *The tradition of putting coins on the grave started when an Indian (I think it was Sitting Bull, but don't remember for sure) placed a buffalo nickel on the grave.

Coors Factory Tour

When we first decided that we were going to go on a vacation to Denver, the first thing that Jason and Derek said was that they wanted to go to the Coors Factory and take the tour. While I wasn't against this, I can honestly say that I wasn't really looking forward to going on a tour of a beer place. I'm not a big beer drinker, so this wasn't something that peeked my interest. But, let me tell you... I loved it! I was so surprised. It was very interesting and amazing to see and hear all about the process of making the beer. The vats that they brew the beer in are HUGE. I couldn't believe the size of them. I learned that Coors makes very little waste - they recycle and/or reuse so much of their waste. The grains that are leftover from the process are sent out to local farmers to feed that cattle and the yeast is sent to Purina to make cat food. Who knew?

I also loved the city of Golden. It was so cute and old and small town-ish. It was the original capital of Colorado and many of the buildings are so old. We had lunch at the Old Capital Grill which was in the building that was the original capital.
