Cold Tangerines

Recently I participated in a book challenge on a blog that I read, Short Stop. Sarah said that it was a book that she couldn't put down and I wanted to read this book that she had described. What I found when I picked up the book for the first time was a breath of fresh air.

Cold Tangerines is a book that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. It does for your insides what curling up by a blazing fire with a cup of hot chocolate does for your outsides. I couldn't help but smile, laugh out loud and shed tears of joy at the collections of stories told by Shauna Niequist. The way she weaves her words together makes you feel like you're right there with her on an island vacation or in the City of Lights.

One of my favorite stories, the red tree, was a reminder to celebrate the occasion - not just party at the event. One example Niequist gave mentioned that having a baby shower should be to celebrate the journey of bringing a baby into the world and not just about the food and favors. Myself, as someone who loves planning parties and putting all the details in place, it was a wake up call that we all to often forget the "why" and make it about trying to have everything so perfect that we forget to have fun and celebrate the occasion.

Cold Tangerines is a book that I would highly recommend to anyone and everyone. It's a great book to read when you're feeling down or just want to read something happy and uplifting. Cold Tangerines is a book that will remain on my nightstand - unless it's on loan to someone who is in need of some Cold Tangerines.
