Thursdays are typically my busiest day. I go to bible study at my church and then I go to Dillon's mommy and me class right after. But, I have been tossing around the idea of taking a Wilton Method Cake Decorating class for a long time and apparently I am nuts because I finally signed up for one... and it's on Thursday. Like I didn't already have enough to do, right?
Anyway, I just finished up Course 1 and I loved it - I learned how to make roses, pipped figures and a bunch of different borders. I had a lot of fun and got a chance to do something that I love (not to mention a break from the house). I really recommend the class to anyone who loves making cakes and wants to learn some new skills.
Each week you bring a frosted layer cake and then decorate it while at the class. The first week the class focuses on decorating with stars and the cake you make is a rainbow made of stars. It also happened to be a few days before Jordan's birthday, so the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
The second class teaches figure making and pipped faces. We also learned how to make some flowers, but the cake for this week was clowns. I so do not like clowns, but I made the cake anyway. You do have the option to make a different cake, but I figured I might as well get the experience and I was the only one who made the "recommended" clown cake.
For the final you make a cake featuring a bouquet of roses. I had a hard time learning the technique, but once I got it down, they came out great and easily.
